Ullambana Festival Grand Ceremony
Ullambana Festival Grand Ceremony
Every year on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, the 125 Tan Phu Guanyin Temple holds the grand Ullambana Festival ceremony.
Significance
The Ullambana Festival originates from the story of Bodhisattva Maudgalyayana (Muc Kien Lien) saving his mother from the realm of hungry ghosts. It is an important occasion for descendants to remember and express gratitude for the nurturing kindness of their parents, grandparents, and ancestors.
The Ullambana Festival is also a time for the absolution of departed souls, offering prayers for their liberation and peace in the afterlife.

- Offering incense to the Buddha
- Wearing carnations (red for those whose mother is living, white for those whose mother has passed)
- Memorial service and prayers for the departed
Schedule
- Date: 15th day of the seventh lunar month each year
